Winter
Trails 50 Miles
Info
In 2005 we had a wonderful summer-like event: warm, sun all day, dry trails.
But as it's February, we may very well have blizzards and lots of snow and ice with temperatures around 10 degrees. We may get wet feet and some aid stations may not be possible to set up ...
If you are looking for a real winter challenge, for fast-hiking 50 miles in a tough group, then this is the event for you.
Whatever we encounter ... no whining.
Event Format
Depending on weather and trail conditions, this fast-hike will be tough to serious.
No entries for less than 50 miles (start at 5:30 a.m. mandatory). DNFs will not be shown in results
50 mile fast-hike on mostly unpaved trails (hard sand, dirt). Scenic along High Line Canal, through Chatfield State Park, South Platte Park, etc..
Course and schedule may change before and/or during the event, subject to weather, construction etc.
Start
and Finish at Starbucks in the NW corner
of Aspen Grove Shopping Center in
Littleton/CO, Santa Fe Dr./Mineral Av. (see Maps).
Staying together as a group – talking, joking, encouraging, …
Walking speed: On nice
trails 4 mi/hr. (15 min./mi.), on “bad trails”,
at the beach etc. somewhat
less. Same speed in case of snow and ice. If you can't keep up anymore, be smart and

The event will happen
in all weathers (be prepared - we may have wind, rain, cold, snow and
ice)
With
rain, wet
or melting snow, crossing some swampy
areas and running water, we will get wet feet. The water-crossing in South Platte Park is
mandatory in 2006. Anyway, bring a few more socks and maybe a second pair of shoes..
For
loop 2 (34.6 miles) you can bring a small drop bag, which will be accessible at aid
stations.
Running/walking shoes (consider possibility of rain, mud, snow, ice, cold).
