6: Traudl and I hiked up and over North Table Mt. today. Main highways in
the area were closed because of extreme wind. We are still wondering how we made
it over the Mesa plateau ... .
If
it rains during our event, footing up and down will be very, very "interesting".

Coming from the south, take Hwy. 6. to Golden, proceed (north) on to Hwy. 93

Turn right (east) on Iowa St. and left on Rubey Dr. and you'll see Loaf n' Jug
store

1st and 2nd loop we have a choice of Subway or Noa's coffee place.

the end we will go to Subway (open till 9 p.m.) or Sport Bar
&Grill (open till 1 a.m.)

Noa, Sport Bar&Grill are just 10 yards away from each other

Aid
Stations will be on Lookout Mountain (at the Nature Center) and at
Heritage Square (Apex TH, when coming down from Indian Mountain). There may
be one or two more - depending on weather etc..

Hi Team,
Just a
couple more days and we will circle Golden. Here are some bullets I want to
communicate today:
- Park in
Noa's/Subway's parking lot (not directly at their front door, as we will
be gone most of the day) and walk over to Loaf'N Jug (150 yards or so).
After each loop we will come back to this parking lot.
- When
we meet at Loaf'N Jug, please BUY SOMETHING, coffee or whatever, as they
may not like a crowd in there without doing any business.
- Aid
Stations: Just on loop 1. As we don't charge an entry fee, don't expect a
huge menu. For loops 2 and 3 take at least 2 BOTTLES and something to eat,
as these are 3-4 hours without an aid station. After each loop, we do
NOT provide an aid station. Please use Noa or Subway or bring your own
stuff.
- Drop
bags: For loop 1 we take one SMALL drop bag per person. As we will
start at Loaf'N Jug, bring them with you to the briefing.
- Prepare
for sun (hat, sun lotion), thunderstorms (rain, wind)). In case of
lightning, if we are at an exposed place, we will stop till it's
gone. Bring a flashlight for the last loop; in case we had to stop, it may
get dark before we are back.
- The
climb up Mt. Galbright (2nd loop) is really hot (south facing). The last
loop over North Mesa is very exposed to wind, and nowhere to hide for 2
hours. Be prepared!
- Rewards:
Without entry fee we can't give awards, but all finishers will get a
little reward (something new, for those of you who have been with us
before).
- BRIEFING
AT 5:45 a.m. IS MANDATORY. So better be "in the area" at
5:30 already.
- Waiver:
Fill it and bring it with you. In case you forget, although I can't
imagine how that could happen, we will bring some hardcopies. No
signed waiver, no start.
- Who
can't keep up is not part of the Team anymore, till he/she joins again.
There are a few skippable out-and-backs and some potential shortcuts.
- The
course is about 9 miles paved, 5 miles x-country and 20 miles trails. If
wet, some sections are really slippery (don't dress in white). For the
sandy sections trail gators are convenient.
- Avoid
discussing politics - we want to be friends from beginning to the end.
- Restrooms:
Not really many on the trails. Leave the trail, hide and make sure
that nobody else is around. Cover whatever you produce.
- Wild
animals: Yes, there are mountain lions, bears, moose, dear etc. in the
area. We even saw a mountain goat on Mt. Zion (looked pretty lost). Be
careful.
- On
loop 1 there may be some bikers. Give way to them.
- We will start
sharp for each loop and will make up for delays (check schedule on our
webpage)
- You
may want to bring a small camera.
- Littering
trails will result in disqualification.
- Traudl
WILL NOT TRANSPORT anybody between aid stations or back to Noa's.
- Helping
other Team members has always been our strength. We want to reach the
finish line together without any DNFs. Be flexible, don't stop thinking
with having a "tour guide" in the front.
- Race
Directors (Ulli and Traudl) have final decision.
